The Green Conservators

A History of Loss and Love

The Green Conservators: Image

Not much is known about the Green Forest, as its lineage of protectors is a short one. Angelos, the first Green Conservator, originally created the Forest in what would one day become eastern Europe. However, with time, its location has moved all over the world. Angelos protected the Forest successfully for nearly two thousand years. Much to his despair, he outlived the other five original Conservators, surpassing his lover Cassia, the original Purple Conservator, by thirteen years.

One of the newer Conservators, Valentina Amante, fell in love with Angelos over time. Though he truly cared deeply for her, it's difficult to say if Angelos returned her feelings. It may be that he never managed to move on from Cassia.

In his later years, tired by his own lifespan, Angelos stepped back from leadership and mentored Nicholas Tucker, the Red Conservator, assisting him in leading the other, newer Conservators.

That all changed in the year 1870. In Sanctus Hortus, alongside Nicholas, Angelos resealed a breach in the seal which held back Mortalitus, the King of the Dark Spirits, and his followers. Tragically, the breach was open just long enough for Mortalitus to escape. His dark spirit latched itself onto Angelos, and destroyed Angelos’ spirit. A horrific mockery of the Light, Mortalitus began using Angelos’ body as a vessel. Hope was not entirely lost. Unable to be touched by the darkness, Angelos’ Green Medallion remained where Angelos fell. There it remained until the year 1884, when Bridget Mata, the Purple Conservator, found it surrounded by the falling snow. The Medallion was passed between the remaining Conservators, along with the news of Angelos’ death. Returning to Sanctus Hortus, Daemon Holloway, the Yellow Conservator, decided the portal to the Green Forest needed to be sealed.

Following his love, Elizabeth Tucker, into the Red Forest, Jacob Florentine of Sturbridge, Massachusetts, fell right into the clutches of Mortalitus. Possessed by the King of Darkness, Jacob fought the Conservators. Beaten down, he was eventually banished by Elizabeth. His own consciousness and free will returning to him, he screamed Elizabeth’s name at the entrance to the Forest, pleading for her to forgive him. Reunited at last, Elizabeth and Jacob returned to Sanctus Hortus together. There, however, they were greeted by Angelos’ spirit. An instrumental piece of the final puzzle, Jacob was destined to replace Angelos as the Green Conservator. After Elizabeth reopened the portal to the Green Forest, Jacob entered and navigated his way through the dark and twisted woodlands. Following the Green Medallion to the Heart of the Forest, Jacob took the Oath and became the second Green Conservator.

After Mortalitus was defeated, Jacob and Elizabeth could finally focus on a future together, though they also were bound to their Forests. Years later, he and Elizabeth married and started a family together. They spent a majority of their lives balancing their duty to their Forests with their lives together. It was a challenging life, but it was a good life.

In the year 1953, Jacob made the difficult decision to step down as the Green Conservator. He wanted to spend more time with his wife and their growing family. He spent a considerable amount of time looking for his successor, but found one in Victoria Roland.
