The Orange Conservators
A History of Independence

The Orange Forest has found itself in eastern Europe and western Asia, and it was first protected by Julia Fairbanks, the first Orange Conservator. A skilled swordsman, Julia joined the other first Conservators in the First Dark War. After their victory, she successfully guarded the Orange Forest until the mid-1800s.
When her son, Richard Fairbanks, was born in January of 1841, Julia decided to move out of the Forest and raise him in a house of their own. To ensure that the link between the Orange Forest and herself remained intact, Julia visited the Forest each night after Richard had gone to bed.
In the year 1857, Angelos, the first Green Conservator, visited Julia to inform her that the Leaking Light phenomenon had begun. The unique relationship between the Forests, the Light, and spacetime had begun to fracture. He instructed Julia to return to her Forest for the foreseeable future, but also to take Richard with her. Reluctantly, Julia followed Angelos’ command. In the Orange Forest, Julia taught Richard the ways of the sword. While there, they witnessed the effects of the Leaking Light: apparitions from both the past and future would appear and then fade from existence, including Mortalitus, the King of Dark Spirits. During a duel with Mortalitus, Julia was fatally wounded. Richard would have been killed too, if it had not been for the other Conservators, including Angelos, Cassia, Nicholas Tucker, Daemon Holloway, and Valentina Amante, who fought the Dark Spirits back. Before her dying breath, Julia inducted her son in as her replacement. A grieving Richard became the second Orange Conservator.
In the years to come, Richard continued to train in the ways of the sword. After Mortalitus escaped from Sanctus Hortus in 1870, Richard remained in Bryansk, Russia for fourteen years. Hopeless, Richard removed his Orange Medallion and allowed his true age to reveal itself. He remained this way until 1884 when Bridget Mata, the second Purple Conservator, informed him of Angelos’ death, and instructed him to find Valentina. Reunited at last, the Conservators joined Elizabeth Tucker, the third Red Conservator, in the Second Dark War against Mortalitus and his army of Dark Spirits.
Richard continued to keep watch over the Orange Forest for another 113 years. In the year 1997, he decided to step down from his position. He found a replacement in Warren Saxon, a young man who grew up in a cabin in the deep woods of Poland. Warren protects the Orange Forest to this day.
